More students who pursue higher education outside their home country choose an American university than other universities around the world. United States offer diversity and variety. The US education system offers a kind of flexibility in terms of the courses that are offered, which enables you select your choice of subject from a variety of topics. You can now specialize in the area of your choice without having to take any unnecessary classes. Availability of financial aid is another major incentive for international students to opt for higher education in the US. Most universities offer its students grants, loans and stipends to cover their daily expenses as well as tuition in some cases.

On completion of your degree, you are legally authorized to work in the US in your related field for about a year and may extend it to further 17 months depending on your degree. You need to apply for Optional Practical Training Employment Authorization (OPT). Most international students get inducted into the company that hires them during their OPT period, by sponsoring their H1-B or work visa. Moreover, more and more companies now are recruiting from talented pool of international students; as such you may fulfill your long term career goals.

Average Tuition:
  • Bachelor's level:    $ 15,000-25,000 per year
  • Master's level (excluding MBA):    $8,000-35,000 per year
  • MBA programs:   $ 15,000 - 50,000 per year
Cost of Living:

On an average a student may shell out anywhere in between $800 to $1000 per month for living expenditures including food. However, these costs do not incorporate personal expenditures on entertainment, clothing etc.

Working while you study

International students are allowed to work 20 hrs a week on campus and off campus jobs are limited and require approval from US Immigration. As such students should not plan to earn substantial money towards their education but may earn enough to cover their expenses.
